Smith Prevails at Inaugural Full Wedge Muskoka Championship

Jesse Smith overcame a 2 shot deficit heading into the final round at the 2021 Full Wedge Golf Muskoka Championship. Amateur Peyton Callens' 1 shot lead evaporated on the front 9 of Sunday's final round. Jesse birdied holes 3,4,6 & 9 to make the turn with a share of the lead.


Smith who took a hiatus from golf. has had quite the accomplished career in golf which includes playing in the 2013 US Open at Merion. "It felt good to be back in contention" Smith said. Smith closed his round on 18 with a bogey to fire a final round 67 and tie the low round of the day.


3 players finished runner up to Smith just 2 back; Stephen Gonko, Chris Wilson and Mathew Iceton. Both Wilson and Iceton put together impressive final rounds of 67 to put them in contention down the stretch. Iceton started the day off blazing having gone 5 under par thru is first 6.


Smith's win earned him 500 pivotal Golf Town Cup points along with the winners cheque of $4,100. Chris Wilson's 2nd place finished propelled him into the 3rd position on the Golf Town Cup Points Race.


The Golf Town Cup points race is a season long order of merit rewarding the tour's top 5 players. Currently, Brendan Leonard holds a commanding lead over Austin Ryan by over 1000 points. With 7 events left on the schedule, Ryan, Wilson and Jones will look to cut into the deficit.


Next up: Sudbury Golf Open at Timberwolf Golf Club. This will be the Tour's 3rd major of the season with additional GT Cup points on the line. Round 1 will commence July 20th.
